Здраствуйте. Вот у меня фон сайта белый, как сделать его другим цветом?

Атрибут как раз есть, зачем путать две совершенно разные вещи, атрибут и стиль.

Ладно, ошибся - атрибут есть, но не валидный, использовать не рекомендуется ибо устарел.
Честно говоря, я был уверен что его уже вымарали из стандартов напрочь.
Впрочем результат всё равно один - лучше не используйте:)

На любых transitional все валидно

Хватит толочь воду в ступе.
Код писать лучше так, чтобы под любым DOCTYPE он был валидным -- по возможности.
bgcolor не прет, и точка.
